How My 2-Year-Old Became My Assistant
How My 2-Year-Old Became My Assistant
When I tell people my daughter started working for me at age two, they usually laugh. But it’s true — she and her big brother were my very first assistants.
Back then, I was running home spa parties through a network marketing company. My son was 8, my daughter was 2, and my youngest wasn’t even born yet.
Money was tight, but my dream was to stay home with my kids. I didn’t want to miss first steps, bedtime stories, or preschool art shows just to clock in at a job that didn’t light me up.
So I decided: if I couldn’t separate motherhood and business, I’d blend them.
My little boy wore his suit and tie and greeted guests at the door like a tiny gentleman. My two-year-old toddled around passing out washcloths and folders with her sweet smile. It wasn’t fancy — but it worked.
They thought they were “helping Mom.”
What they didn’t know was that they were helping me build a dream.
Years later, when I launched my doll repair business, that same daughter learned to clean dolls and style their hair. By middle school, she was creating jewelry and earning her own money for her work.
My oldest son learned customer service, shipping, and how to talk confidently with adults. By the time their little brother came along years later, they were both old pros at running a family business.
Did everything take longer? Yes.
Was it a little chaotic? Absolutely.
But it was worth every minute.
Because I never had to choose between being present for my kids and building something meaningful. We built it together.
Those years are the best gift I’ve ever received — proof that you can grow a business without missing your life. 💕
