How I Made My Mom’s Wedding Barbie New Again
How I Made My Mom’s Wedding Barbie New Again 💍
When I was growing up, my mom kept her wedding Barbie carefully stored away — a perfect little time capsule of 1960s glamour.
But when I unpacked her years later, I was heartbroken to see her poor ears had turned bright green. The metal in her earrings had reacted with the vinyl over time, leaving behind the dreaded “green ear” that so many vintage Barbie collectors know too well.
It had even tinted part of her blonde hair a bright green.
Most people would have tucked her back into storage, but to me, she deserved a second chance at beauty.
My Live Demo: Safe Earrings for Any Doll
This Friday at 1PM ET, I’ll be going live inside my Heirloom Doll Challenge Facebook group to show you how I restored my mom’s Barbie’s sparkle — without causing any more damage.
But before you grab your brushes and chemicals — let me be clear:
👉 I won’t be teaching how to fix green ear during this demo.
That extensive process takes special products and steps you’ll find inside The Doll Repair Vault, my members-only library of restoration tutorials.
What I will show you is how to make safe earrings for your dolls so this never happens again.
You’ll learn:
Which materials won’t react with vinyl or discolor hair
How to create simple, elegant earrings that stay in place
My favorite tips for installing them without damage
It’s a short, 30-minute live class that will leave your dolls looking brand new again — and it’s completely free to attend.

Why Green Ear Happens
“Green ear” is the result of a chemical reaction between the metals used in vintage doll earrings and the soft vinyl used for the dolls’ heads. Over time, moisture, skin oils, and air exposure accelerate the reaction, turning the metal verdigris green — and unfortunately, staining the vinyl right along with it.
It’s one of the most common and most frustrating issues I see when restoring midcentury dolls.
That’s why this live demo is so important — prevention is so much easier (and safer) than repair.
