Stop Making It So Hard to Pay You
How One Small Thing Almost Cost a Sale (And What You Can Learn From It)
Here’s a mistake I see way too many business owners making:
They make it hard to buy.
Now, I get it—you want to make sure people are legit, protect yourself from fraud, maybe reduce refunds. But let me tell you a quick story about what that kind of overprotection actually does to your sales.
The other day I was hopping on Instagram to respond to a DM, and as I scrolled, an ad caught my eye. It was for a product that would make the perfect anniversary gift for my husband. (I won’t say what it is, just in case he reads this—hi, honey!)
Anyway, it was something we could use together at the beach or up at our mountain cabin, and it was on sale. The kind of deal you don’t scroll past. So I clicked through to buy…
…but then the drama began.
They didn’t accept PayPal, so I had to go downstairs to grab my wallet. Already inconvenient. Then, when I typed in my card, they wanted to text a code—to my husband’s phone. Not ideal for a surprise gift.
So I tried a different card.
Denied. Fraud flag.
By the time I got it all sorted a few hours later, the excitement had worn off. The only reason I followed through is because I really wanted that gift—and I needed it fast.
But if it had been any other “maybe” product? I would’ve abandoned the cart and never looked back.
The lesson?
✨ Make it easy for people to give you their money. ✨
This is why I always offer all the payment options—PayPal, Apple Pay, Klarna, you name it—on whatever platform I’m using. I want my customers to be able to say “yes” the moment they feel called to buy. No barriers. No second-guessing. No lost sales.
It’s not just about being “convenient.” It’s about not sabotaging your own business.
