Friday the 13th… and Why It’s Actually Been a Pretty Good Day

Every so often the calendar gives us a date with a reputation.

Today is Friday the 13th, which many people consider unlucky. Some won’t travel. Some avoid making big decisions. A few won’t even leave the house if they can help it.

The superstition has been around for centuries, and one of the stories behind it traces back to 1307, when King Philip IV of France ordered the arrest of the Knights Templar. On Friday, October 13th, most members of the order were rounded up and executed.

It was a brutal moment in history, and over time the memory of it settled into the public imagination. The date became associated with bad luck… and somehow it stayed there.

Even now, hundreds of years later, the reputation still lingers.

But today hasn’t felt unlucky at all over here.

My daughter is home from college for a visit, which automatically makes any day better. The house feels fuller when she’s here — more laughter, more conversation drifting through the rooms.

Between catching up with her, I’ve been doing a little work. Checking orders. Shipping a few things. Glancing at notifications coming in from my online shops.

And somehow sales have been popping up throughout the day.

Nothing dramatic. Just that pleasant little surprise each time the notification appears.

It made me laugh a little when I realized what day it was.

All these years people have warned us about Friday the 13th… and here I am having a perfectly lovely one.

It reminded me of something I’ve noticed over the years.

Sometimes the stories we inherit about how things are “supposed” to go… aren’t actually true.

A day that’s supposed to be unlucky can turn out wonderful.

A business idea that people say will never work can quietly support your family for decades.

A hobby can become a career.

A simple afternoon at home can end up being the best part of your week.

Life is funny that way.

We’re told certain things are unlucky. Hard. Impossible. Not the right time.

But the moment we decide the story might not apply to us… things often start unfolding differently.

Not in some dramatic lightning-bolt manifestation way.

More often it’s small things.

A sale you weren’t expecting.
A good conversation.
A quiet moment where everything feels peaceful.

Little reminders that the day still belongs to you.

So if today feels like just another ordinary Friday, you might try a small experiment.

Decide it’s lucky anyway.

See what happens.

You might be surprised what shows up.

P.S. If you’ve been curious about the Online Income Playbook Summit, it starts Monday and registration is still open. It’s a week of conversations about turning creativity, skills, and knowledge into online income — something that has certainly made many of my own days feel a little luckier.
