Fall Equinox, Agatha Christie, and Identity Shifts
Fall Equinox, Agatha Christie, and Identity Shifts
The equinox slipped by a few days ago, and just like that, we’re officially in fall. 🍂 The light has changed, the air feels different, and this season always feels like a quiet invitation to reinvent myself.
Playing with Identity
Here’s a little game I’ve been thinking about: what if you could try on a new identity the way you change into a new dress? Who would you become?
For me, it’s Linnet Ridgeway from Death on the Nile — but specifically the movie version, played by Gal Gadot (before she’s murdered, of course! Spoiler alert if you haven’t seen it yet 🙈).
I’m just now reading Agatha Christie’s original book, and Linnet there is far less sympathetic. Poirot won’t even take her case! But in the movie… oh my.
She’s luminous. Confident. Poised. Delusionally rich (she could practically buy a country if she wanted to). Her gowns and jewels are breathtaking, she glides across the dance floor, and she commands every room she enters. What I admire most is her unshakable assurance. She doesn’t second-guess or apologize — she simply is. Everything she does feels precisely right in her own mind.
That’s the energy I want to embody this season.
So now I’m curious: if you could slip into a new identity, who would you choose — and why? Share in the comments below — I’d love to hear the shifts you’re craving.
A Mama’s Heartache
On the home front, my mama heart has been hurting this week. Our youngest finally got up the courage to ask his crush to Homecoming after more than a year of liking her. Not only did she say she couldn’t go because she’s in a wedding — she added that if he was hoping she’d be his girlfriend, she wasn’t interested. Ouch. 💔
As if that weren’t enough, on the very same day he found out that even though he ran well at his last meet (and helped the team place 2nd against much higher-ranked schools), he came in 8th on his own team and won’t be included in the next invitational. He’s so discouraged, and honestly, I just want to wrap him up and protect him from it all.
Have you ever wanted to just shake some kid who hurt yours? That’s where I am right now. But I know I can’t fix it for him. All I can do is remind him of who he is: smart, athletic, kind, and absolutely worthy. And maybe, just maybe, this ties back to identity too. Sometimes the world doesn’t reflect back who we are — at least, not yet.
A Little Favor

Here’s to fall, fresh identities, and maybe a little Linnet Ridgeway energy for all of us. ✨
Who would you become if you could try on a new identity like a dress? Tell me below — I can’t wait to hear.
