It’s Not Just For Me… It’s For All of Us

Today feels like one of those turning-point days—the kind where you realize just how much your choices have shaped your life, your family, and your future.

This morning, my husband Jerry had an interview for a major promotion. The kind of promotion that comes with life-changing income… and a big catch. If he gets the job, he’ll be relocating to South Carolina during the week and commuting home on weekends. We aren’t planning to move with him right away because our son is doing incredibly well in high school, and starting junior year is not the time to uproot him.

It’s not ideal. But it’s also not new for us.

We’ve done the long-distance thing before. When we were engaged, Jerry was stationed in Delaware as part of the Air Force during the Gulf War. Years later, when our daughter was a baby and our older son was only six, Jerry worked in Asheville, five hours away from our home at the time, during the week. I was home with two little ones and barely had time to wash my hair, let alone think straight. And 13 years ago, we moved to our current home for his last big promotion.

Every time, we’ve made it work. And every time, my business has been the steady thread weaving through the changes.

I’ve never pretended we’re millionaires just from my business. But I have been the one holding it all together—keeping the house running, raising the kids, covering the extras, and giving Jerry the freedom to focus on school and his career without worrying what’s happening at home.

That’s why I started this business in the first place. So I could be with my family—whenever and wherever they needed me. And that’s why I built it to be flexible. I knew life would throw us curveballs. And here we are, catching another one.

Will I love doing it all myself during the week for the next couple of years? Probably not. But I know I can. I know my business will support me. And truthfully… I love a lot of things about South Carolina. If Jerry gets the job, we’ll be much closer to our mountain cabin. Closer to the beach, too. And no matter how long I’ve lived away, I will always be a California beach girl at heart.

This season has reminded me of my why. Why I chose this path. Why I kept going when it was hard. Why I kept showing up when no one was watching.

Maybe it’s your why, too.
