When I was a little girl, my mother taught my sisters and me a sweet, old-fashioned May Day tradition—making May baskets.

We’d carefully weave little baskets out of colorful construction paper, then fill them with freshly picked spring flowers. These little gifts were usually meant for our grandparents or neighbors who held a special place in our hearts. The best part? The delivery! We would quietly sneak up to their doorsteps, hang the baskets on the doorknob, ring the bell, and dash away to hide behind bushes or trees—peeking out just enough to watch their faces when they discovered the surprise. It was magical.
